Dan Pankhurst ~ SJA Coach
Dan started training in February 2006 after coming along to watch some friends train. Dan states " The friendly atmosphere of the club and the skill and knowledge of the instructors was immediately obvious to me and I felt the urge to get on the mat and give it a go and I haven't looked back since. My Fitness has greatly improved and I enjoy learning and testing new skills and techniques. I was awarded my first Dan at the team competition in May 2008. I didn't know I was going to receive my black belt as everyone had kept quiet about it, it was a nice surprise. I look forward to further increasing my knowledge and abilities and helping others to do the same. In 2011 Dan was unanimously appointed treasurer of the SJA Trust which was founded in the same year. The Trust is a committee that runs the operation of the Shodan Competition Squad. |

Lewis Sanderson - SJA Coach
I first started Judo with a couple of friends. It soon became apparent that this was the sport for me. I graded slowly whilst I was at college and university. However after I graduated and returned to Wiltshire I finally received my Dan grade in November 2011. My fitness and mental state has improved dramatically and my overall confidence is greater. When I was a white belt I could never see myself as a coach. But goes to show that hard work does pay off eventually! Training with Shodan Judo has opened up my entire interest to all martial arts and has helped with my grappling in other sports.
