This Kata Course is one of a limited opportunities for SJA members to focus purely on the Kata element of Judo. The Katas are an important part of the grading syllabus but are often over looked in favour of other elements of Judo.

During the evening we will aim to look at as much of the 5 sets of kata as possible so there is a good understanding and where possible they will be ticked off for the gradings that would have taken place in March.

All Green belts+ and all seniors should look to attend this course wherever at all possible.

The Katas involve working closely with a Kata partner who should be someone of a similar size and ability. Your kata partner should be someone from the same club and whom with you can work well. Katas are a partnership and you will need to work together to make your kata decent.

Because the Kata involve lots of break falls we shall do as we did last year and combine the Trocellen (Green) with the Sportag (Black) mats to make a nice soft tatami without being too soft to hinder our Judo. Crash mats will also be on hand for the more difficult techniques.
