The 2009 Shodan CupSunday October 11th saw the third annual Shodan Cup Competition held at St Dunstan School in Calne. Competing for the trophy in individual weight categories were Calne, Chippenham and Trowbridge Judo Clubs. The previous competitions had been held in a great atmosphere and good spirit between the competitors and this year was no exception. Last years winning club was Trowbridge who had a big squad of players and all of which performed to a very high standard, winning the majority of medals and the trophy by some margin. This years winning club was Chippenham Judo club who won the competition for the first time and will attempt to become the first club to retain the trophy next year. The standard of Judo was a gain high and very entertaining with 10 seniors competing and providing a rare opportunity for the juniors to see competitive senior Judo with higher graded techniques including arm-locks and strangles that juniors will hopefully go on to learn for themselves in the future. The Shodan Cup is designed to be a competition for experienced Judoka as well as younger and new players who may be competing for the first time. All competitors young, older, new and experienced should be proud of themselves, as should all those connected to their respective clubs. Well done once more to all competitors and spectators and we shall look forward to seeing all of you again next year. Medal WinnersTiny, tiny tots
