Shodan Judo News

Welcome to our news page. Here you will find all the latest news giving you all you need to know about what's happening with Shodan Judo and it's members.

If you have anything that you want adding to the page to share with the other members then please contact us and we'll see what we can do for you.

With the new updated web site we have decided to add a calendar page which we will update frequently, you can visit that by clicking here. The calendar will also be available as a pdf download from our downloads page or you can right click here and click Save As.

We have tried to give Shodan Judo a consistent look and feel so as with our other information pages click on the header bars below to open the full article.

At Shodan Judo we know some people struggle to remember all there is to know for gradings and, looking at the available DVDs, we saw that most of them look at a few techniques only. So with this in mind we decided to create our own sreies of DVD titles. Each DVD will cover an entire grade syllabus and in the case of the first DVD the White and Yellow Belt techniques are on one DVD!

The DVDs are comng soo!! .While the DVDs won't get you to Olympic standard, they will be a useful training aid to all novice and intemediate grades looking to aid their knowledge of techniques.

The first DVD will be available in the first week of November and as mentioned will cover the entire White and Yellow belt Shodan syllabus.

Further releases will cover grades from Orange to Brown. There are also plans to release titles on the Nage No Kata as required by Shodan Judo and also a DVD on counters and combinations. Both of which are requiremtns for Green belt and above with Shodan judo.

The cost of the DVDs will be £10 to Shodan Judo members and £12 to non members.

If you are interested in pre-ordering a copy then please contact us.

There is no Randori session in October due to the Shodan Cup competition

Shodan is to introduce a monthly randori session to be held on the first Monday of each month, beginning the 7th of July. This session is open to both juniors and seniors with the fee being £3.50 per person. If two Shodan club members attend the session that are from the same family then there is a discount available with the fee being only £5 for both members.

All Judoka are welcome whether you are member of Shodan Judo Clubs or not and whether you are Olympic standard or a beginner. We are a friendly bunch and would appreciate the opportunity to train with new and different people.

The session time is 7.15 until 8.30 although we may continue until 8.45. Any junior members who need to leave early are obviously welcome to do so. Anyone who can arrive at 7pm to help set out the mats are more then welcome to do so.

Health and Safety:

Those wishing to attend from other clubs and associations need to make sure they have the necessary personal accident cover provided by their home club or association.

This is a Randori session and not a normal club session that includes games and learning new techniques. Randori is fighting but without the intensity and aggression of contests at competitions and gradings. Randori sessions provide an opportunity for you to put in to practice the Judo that you have learnt during your normal sessions. If you try something new and it does not work and you end up losing the contest then it does not matter, as it is only randori. A contest at a competition is known as a Shia and because winning and losing matters it is much harder.

Look forwards to seeing you all there. The Shodan Team

The next Shodan Self Defence course

The Shodan self defence course will take place at St Dunstan School, Calne on Sunday November 23rd from 11.00am til 2.30pm. As before the time will be dedicated to simple and effective self defence techniques which can be learned easily and quickly by both men and women with some techniques concentrating on defence for women.

The cost of the course is £15 and is open to anyone over the age of 12. If you are under 12 you must be a green belt and contact either Jason or Paul for a decision on your attendance.

If you want more details or are interested then see Jason or Paul or you can contact us using the contact for here.

The Shodan hoodies are here now!

Below are a few pictures superbly modelled by Jason! I We think he missed his calling as a catwalk model.

If you want one the order form can be downloaded from our download page or see you instructor.

The Junior Judo camp is scheduled for Sunday 16th November. As always it will be an exiting and enjoyable blend of fun, games and Judo. Six hours worth for £12! with discounts to £10 if more than one member of a family take part. We think it's good value, why don't you come along and judge for yourself.

The format will be similar to pprevious camps with the camp starting at 10am and continuing until 3pm with a competition for those attending to be held between 2pm and 3pm. There will also be a randori session starting at 3pm and running until 4pm which is open to juniors and seniors. If you have attended the Judo Camp then the randori session is free! If you just want to come along to the randori then the cost will be £3.50 for both juniors and any seniors who wish to attend.

The booking forms is available for download from our downloads page by clicking here or you can contact the instructors using our contact form here and we'll get back to you. Or, see your instructor at your normal training class for more details.

The shodan cup club v club competition was held on 30th September 2007 at St Dunstan School, Calne

We have done a full write up on the events of the day and so have decided to give it its own web page on the site which you can visit here.

A superb day was had by all so please visit the page to find out what happened.

We also have some photos from the day which you can find in our gallery section or by clicking here for the first set or here for the second set of photos

Our £3.50 fee is great value compared to other martial arts and now you can get even more Judo fun and games.

From June 07, if you attend a different club in addition to your usual one in the same week then you will only have to pay £1.50 for that session meaning both sessions cost only £5. So if your club is Corsham on a Monday and you attend Chippenham on a Thursday, then the Thursday session will cost just £1.50.

Members can save even more and have all the Judo you need by attending all three sessions in the same week with the second and third both costing £1.50 each. That is three and a quarter hours of Judo for just £6.50 saving almost 40%.

(Intermediate members can already attend a junior and senior session on the same club night for no additional fee and senior fees are not included)

Quotes

"I wanted my son to have fun but still be aware of the need for discipline and Shodan Judo gives him both."

Parent Chippenham

"Know your enemy and know yourself and you can fight a hundred battles without disaster. When the enemy is at ease, be able to weary him; when well fed, to starve him; when at rest, to make him move"
